New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, October 16, 2017, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in New Iberia for Joseph "Al" Babineaux, 86, who passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017, in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Beau Pre Cemetery in Jeanerette.
Rev. Mario Romero will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm Sunday. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
A native of St. Martinville and a longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Babineaux was born on November 5, 1930 to the late Robert and Lydia Talley Babineaux. He served our country in U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and was instrumental in the Life Vest testing, and also assisted with medical transportation. Mr. Babineaux was a people person, who always had a joke for the day. He worked most of his life has a food broker, and enjoyed camping, working in his yard, going to the casino and Duffy's Diner, meeting his morning coffee group, and most of all spending time with his family.
Survivors include his children, Cynthia deGravelle and husband Dr. Martin deGravelle of Broussard, Renee' Champagne and husband Paul of New Iberia, Yvonne Romero and husband Patrick of Youngsville, Robert Babineaux and wife Michelle of New Iberia, Kurt Babineaux and wife Helen of New Iberia; grandchildren, Dr. Michael Guidry and wife, Dr. Cathy Guidry, Stacie Colletti, Amie Champagne, Cory Rogers and wife Tanya, Shane Rogers and companion Sonia Olinde, Cameron Babineaux and wife Keisha, Tori Babineaux Pullins and husband Justin, Alex Babineaux, Clair Champagne and companion Shea Simon; 21 great grandchildren; sisters, Ellen Desormeaux and husband Farrell of Abbeville, Mamie Blundell of Lafayette, and Christy LeBlanc and husband Randy of Lafayette.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruby Robicheaux Babineaux, son-in-law, Glen L. Guidry, sisters, Jenny Romero, and Margie Crocker, and brother-in-law, Marvin Blundell.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Guidry, Cory Rogers, Shane Rogers, Cameron Babineaux, Hunter Rogers, and Christopher Colletti.
Honorary pallbearers include Cole Colletti and Ethan Guidry.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Tim Viator, Dr. Darvin Hale, Dr. Martin deGravelle, the staffs of Cardiovascular Institute of the South New Iberia, Azalea Estates, and the caregivers.
