Joseph Broussard

May 7, 1921 — November 23, 2012

Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Monday, November 26, 2012, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Joseph Clarence Broussard, 91, who passed away on Friday, November 23, 2012, at Lafayette General Medical Center. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Sunday and continue on Monday at 8:00 am until 10:30 am. A Rosary will be prayed by Clifford Hebert at 7:00 pm on Sunday. Rev. Allen Breaux will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Danielle Scott and Shawn Gautreaux. Gift Bearers will be Danielle Scott and Kim Broussard. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Mr. Broussard served in the Civilian Conservation Corps camp in California from 1939 to 1941. He enlisted in the United States Navy on March 12, 1942 and served in Europe, Africa, and the Pacific Theatre during World War II. During his enlistment he was a member of the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. He was honorably discharged from service to his country on October 25, 1945. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post in Cecilia. Mr. Broussard retired from Franks Casing Crew in 1986 after many years of loyal and dedicated service. He was an avid sports fan of L.S.U. football and Atlanta Braves baseball, looking forward to each and every season. He was known to be meticulous about his home, his yard, and tending to his pecan trees - everything was always well-maintained. Every Saturday afternoon was dedicated to washing and waxing his car - he wanted to make sure that it was always clean and that it shined, just as the day he bought it. A spiritual and devout Catholic, he prayed the Rosary daily, offering his intentions to those in need. He is survived by his son, Ted A. Broussard and his wife, Christina, of Broussard; his daughter, Sheila B. Tauzin and her husband, Kenneth, of Cecilia; his sister, Nola Mae Huval of Breaux Bridge; three grandchildren, Dwayne Tauzin, Danielle Tauzin Scott and her husband, Van, and Kim Broussard; and two great grandchildren, John Michael Broussard and Madeline Rose Scott. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nita Champagne Broussard; his parents, Lucien and Azalea Guidry Broussard; his brother, Mitchell Broussard; and two sisters, Marjorie Huval and Enola Domingue. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Tauzin, Dwayne Tauzin, Keith Thomassee, Kenneth Champagne, Shawn Gautreaux, and Patrick Domingue. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Bower, Michael Dean Harris, John Michael Broussard, and Dr. Michael Berard. The family would like to extend special thanks and gratitude to his buddies, Percy and John; the staff of J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home, Lafayette General Medical Center, and Drs. Castro, Guidry and Fontenot, for the constant care and attention given to him during his time of need; and a grateful 'thank you' to Clifford Hebert, for leading the Rosary for us on Sunday evening.
