New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in New Iberia for Joseph A. Courville, Jr., 90, who passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, in Lafayette.
Interment will follow in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery in Coteau, with military honors by the Iberia Honor Guard.
Rev. Keith Landry will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm Friday. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
A longtime area resident, Mr. Courville was born on October 11, 1926 to the late Joseph A. Courville, Sr. and Eta Wilkes Courville. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and proudly served our country during World War II in the Mariana Islands. Mr. Courville helped establish the local AARP Chapter, and was active in the Louisiana Orphan Train Society, the Knights of Columbus, VFW, and his church, Sacred Heart of Jesus in New Iberia. He was a people person and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, but most of all spending time with his family.
Survivors his wife of 68 years, Theresa Jane Ortego Courville of New Iberia; sons, Michael Courville and wife Linda of Orlando, Florida, George Courville and wife Nadine of Erath; daughter, Lisa Kadi and husband Joe of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Louis Courville, Gabe Courville, Rafe Courville, Allison Courville Hebert, Morgan Courville Dubois, Anna Kadi, Ava Kadi; great grandchildren, Sophie Courville, Jack Courville, and Livie Hebert; daughter-in-law, Vicki Courville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Courville, brothers, Nolan "Blue" Courville, Leander "Doc" Courville, Johnny Courville, sisters, Onezia "Sis" Vidrine, Ola, Mim Marks, and grandchildren, Nash Courville, and Claire Courville.
Pallbearers will be Louis Courville, Gabe Courville, Rafe Courville, Kirk Dupre, Joe Kadi, and Tyler Hebert.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the American Heart Association, or to the New Iberia VFW Post 1982.
