St. Martinville- A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Joseph Nelson James, 83, who died Thursday, March 14, 2013, in New Iberia. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 7:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville. Born on July 6, 1929, Mr. James was the son of Sterling James and Eva Jean Baptiste. He served our country in the U.S. Army, during World War II, and was a bus driver for the SMILE Program. He is survived by his sons, Miles James and wife Antionette of Cedar Hills, Texas, Allen James of New Iberia; sister, Mary Edna Broussard of New Iberia; sisters-in-law, Lena James of New Iberia, Della Mae Jones of St. Martinville; 2 grandchildren, Antwan Floyd, and Jazmine James; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Vavasseur James; brothers, Sterling 'Big Boy' James, Morris James; sister, Lorena James; brother-in-law, Wilton 'Tap' Broussard.
