J.C., a self-taught electrician who owned and operated Viator and Son Electric for many years, was born in New Iberia, LA on July 27, 1939, to the late Edias “T-Man” and Rose Hebert Viator. J.C. was not only known for his electrical expertise, but also for the warmth and kindness he brought to those around him. His passion for cooking and occasional visits to the casino (“for the food!”) showcased his love for good company and great flavors.
During his younger years, Joseph was a well-known fan/sponsor of softball, where his signature phrase, "Yeah you right!" would echo through the stands. This charisma and sportsmanship stayed with him as he continued to root passionately for his favorite teams - the New Orleans Saints and the New York Yankees - from the comfort of his favorite recliner in front of his big screen TV.
Mr. Viator is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Anne Broussard Viator; children, Lisa Berard, Tracey Hebert (Chris), and Troy Joseph Viator (Laurie); grandchildren, Brooke Garrett, Brennon Berard (Brittany), Paige Snay (Aaron), Dustin Hebert, Lance Hebert (Elise), Tucker Viator (Victoria), Kaitlyn Viator, and Landon Viator; step-granddaughter, Morgan Sagrera (Jacob); and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jody Charles Viator; brother, Alwyn Viator; and a grandson, Brad Berard.
Pallbearers will be Troy Viator, Chris Hebert, Tucker Viator, Brennon Berard, Dustin Hebert, Lance Hebert, and Landon Viator.
Honorary pallbearers are Rodney Viator and Kerry Viator.
J.C. leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and a zest for life that inspired all who knew him. He will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace.
