Joseph Orphe

St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 11 a .m., Saturday, October 9, 2010 , at Mallalieu United Methodist Church in St. Martinville for Joseph John Orphe, 84, who passed away on Monday, October 4, 2010. Interment will follow at Mallalieu United Methodist Cemetery in St. Martinville. Mr. Orphe was a member of Mallalieu United Methodist Church , where he served as a Trustee an Usher. He was a veteran of World War II, having honorably served his country in the United States Army. A number of years ago, Mr. Orphe was bestowed the honor of being named the New Comers Mardi Gras King Gabriel. Survivors include his son, Wilbert John Orphe (Jackie) of New Iberia; four daughters, Phyllis Anthony Linzer (Damon) of New Iberia, Clara Tyler Batiste (Murphy) of St. Martinville, Lucinda George of Cade, and Rev. Martha Orphe of New Orleans; a son-in-law, William 'Flee' Batiste of St. Martinville; a special granddaughter he reared as his own, Monica Tyler Batiste (Steven) of St. Martinville; two sisters-in-law, Castille Orphe and Della Mae Orphe, both of St. Martinville; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lionel and Martha Jones Orphe; his wife, Dolores Lee Orphe; daughter, Stella Orphe Batiste; granddaughter, Melissa Ann Orphe; great granddaughter, Tylan Orphe; and brothers, Leo and Clarence Orphe. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Mallalieu United Methodist Church in St. Martinville on Saturday from 7 a.m. until time of service.
