Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Thursday, January 30, 2020, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Joseph Chester Rabeaux, 91, who joined his loving wife in heaven on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Wednesday and continue on Thursday at 7:00 am until 11:00 am.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Wednesday by Deacon Ken Soignier.
Rev. Garrett McIntyre will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Lauren and Blair Miller. Gift bearers will be Meagan Dupre and Leah Meche.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette.
Joseph, known to many as Chester, was born in Youngsville, Louisiana to the late Gustave, Sr. and Odelia Moreau Rabeaux. Chester was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed their monthly gatherings. He enjoyed listening to his French music, gardening, and watching high school basketball and recreational softball tournaments. Chester will be remembered for his kind heart, his jolly laugh, and his love of gumbo. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank his caregivers: his granddaughter, Mindy Durio, Peggy Broussard, Bessie Brown with Agnes Angels, and St. Joseph Hospice for their love and care.
He is survived by his sons, Mike Rabeaux (Merna), Neil Rabeaux, and Chris Rabeaux; daughters, Gwen Guilbeaux (Gordy), Cathy Latiolais (Jerome), Jill Dirk, Becki Miller (Randy), Dana Bonin (Burt), and Kim Poirier (Ken); 19 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Donald and Tommy Dauphine, and Eldrick Tauzin; sisters-in-law, Jean Landry, and Mary and Rose Rabeaux; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Nell D. Rabeaux; granddaughter, Cassie Miller; great grandson, Raylon Rabeaux; father, Gustave Rabeaux, Sr.; mother, Odelia Moreau Rabeaux; brothers, John, Gustave, Jr., and Edwin Rabeaux; and sisters, Victoria Romero, Aline Trahan, Elina Rouly, Effie Hebert, Evie Trahan, Rose Mae Trahan, and Eula Mae Trahan.
Pallbearers will be Mike Rabeaux, Neil Rabeaux, Chris Rabeaux, Gordy Guilbeaux, Jerome Latiolais, Randy Miller, Burt Bonin, Ken Poirier, and Greg LeBlanc.
