New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau for Joseph Singleton, 71, who died Friday, June 26, 2009 in New Iberia.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant. Readings will be recited by Joseph Wilmer Collins. Gift bearers include Ashton Singleton and Brittany Robertson.
Born on March 20, 1938 in Cecilia, Joseph enjoyed hunting, fishing and barbequing for his family.
Survivors include his daughter; Kathy Singleton of Jeanerette, Karen Bonnet and husband Cassius Bonnet, Sr. of Coteau, Kate Boutte and husband John of St. Martinville, Kristy Lee and husband Henry of St. Martinville; brother, Paul Singleton of Opelousas; sisters, Lilly Mae Broussard of Lake Charles, Ann Montgomery of California, Marie Lebrie of California, Margaret Jackson of Opelousas, Emma Brooks of Washington D.C.; grandchildren, Ashton Singleton, Cassius Bonnet, Jr., Brittany Robertson, Homer Joseph Decuir, Jr.; great grandchild, Cassidi Angelle Bonnet.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Singleton, Sr., and Hazel Lachapelle Singleton; his brothers; William Singleton, Jr. and Alfred Singleton; sister, Rose Verdum.
Pallbearers will be Cassius Bonnet, Sr., Henry Lee, Cassius Bonnet, Jr., Paul J. Olivier, Willie Roy Jackson, Jr. and Lemel Lee.
Honorary pallbearers include John L. Boutte, Homer Decuir, Jr., Alvin LaSalle, Jurvis LaSalle, Craig Olivier and Paul Singleton.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 7:00 AM until 9:45 AM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be recited at 8:00 AM.
