Arnaudville - Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 28, 2009, at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville, for Joseph Mabram Shorty Thompson, 61, who passed away on Friday, February 20, 2009 at University Medical Center in Lafayette, LA
Interment will follow at St. John Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville.
Fr. Keenan Brown , Pastor of St. John Francis Regis Church, will conduct the services. Readers will be Christine Dargin and Kendra Charles. Wakeisha Richard and Barbara Tyler will serve as gift bearers.
Shorty enjoyed cooking his bar-b-que for his family gatherings while listening to Zydeco music and expressing his joy through dancing. He was known to have a great deal of faith and enjoyed going to church and spending time with his Lord. He always expressed his love for Mary Ann, his loving companion of 38 years, whom he called his guardian angel. Joseph never said no to those in need, which is how his family would like him to be remember.
Survivors include his companion, Mary Ann Broussard of Arnaudville; his sons, Clyde Mabram Broussard (Mary Dene) of Arnaudville and Eddie Tyler of Houston, TX; his daughters, Cynthia Ann Broussard of Breaux Bridge, Chikita Ann Broussard (Christopher) of Carencro, Wakeisha D.R. Richard (Rodrick) of Opelousas and Barbara Ann Tyler of Grand Coteau; his brothers, Junius Thompson (Margaret) of Grand Coteau and Alvin Thompson of Houston, TX; his sisters, Elvina Dean (Raymond), Ida Mae Human (Alton), all of Arnaudville, and Rose Wiltz (Preston) of Houston, TX; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Junius Thompson, Sr. and Bertha Sam Thompson; his brother, George Alton Thompson and his nephew, Jermaine Human.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 7:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2009.
A rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Clyde M. Broussard, Eddie Tyler, Rodrick Richard, Henry John Broussard, Junius Broussard and Randy Broussard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alvin Thompson, Russell Williams, Jules Edwards III, Raymond Dean, Alton Human, Preston Wiltz and Ronnie Joe Thomas.
