Cecilia- A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m., on Friday, December 16, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia, for Joseph Roy Zeringue, 85, who passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Fr. Michael Delcambre will officiate at the funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Marissa Bertrand and Morgan Landry. Gift Bearers will be Sydney and Cael Zeringue and Lauren Burgess. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mr. Zeringue worked many years in the offshore industries and also worked in Nigeria, Peru, and Venezuela, ending his working career as a captain for Guy Scroggins Construction Company.
He would spend many hours each and every week cutting grass at his residence. He also loved the weekly suppers with his brothers-in-law, Bick and Jakee, and their spouses.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Marie Lillie Thomassee Zeringue of Cecilia; one son, Michael D. Zeringue and wife, Judy, of Lafayette; four daughters, Glenda Ann Zeringue Dohman of Cecilia, Ramona Elizabeth Dupuis and husband, John Wayne, of Arnaudville, Myra Ann Robin and husband, Michael, of Cecilia, and Melissa Ann Landry and husband, Kenneth, of Metairie; one brother, Anthony Zeringue and wife, Linda, of Cecilia; three sisters, Rose Dupuis of Cecilia, Anita Blanchard and husband, Gerald, of Breaux Bridge, and Betty Ann Pronneke and husband, Marsh, of Ponca City, OK; 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abel and Jeanne Schexnider Zeringue; and his son-in-law, Allen Dohman, Jr.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday and continue on Friday at 7 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.
A rosary will be recited by Deacon Ken Soignier at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Mike Robin, Nick Robin, Casey Dohman, Scott Zeringue, Kenneth Landry, Wayne Dupuis, and Jonothan Dupuis.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Lafayette General Medical Center for the care he was provided during his stay, and to Dr. Warren Degatur, for his years of care. They would also like to give special thanks to his caregiver, Judy Patin, for the compassionate care and attention given to him during his illness.
