St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 30, 2009, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Josephine "Josie" Theriot Landry, 84, who passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at her residence in St. Martinville.
Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville.
Msgr. J. Douglas Courville, Pastor of St. Martin de Tours Church, will conduct the services. Readers will be Dale and Brook Dauphine. Gift Bearers will be her grandchildren.
Mrs. Landry worked with the St. Martinville A.R.C. as an instructor and bus driver since its organization in 1971. She retired after 27 years of unselfish and constant devotion to her loving clients who often referred to her as "Josie". Josie was a very patient, loving and giving person with a heart of gold. She gave of herself in any way she could to anyone who needed, whether it was of her time or anything of value that she may have had - it was theirs. She will truly be missed by her family, friends, co-workers, and her clients at the A.R.C.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, a participant in the Chapel of Perpetual Adoration, and Rosary group. She welcomed and enjoyed having family and friends come over to visit with her at her home, playing cards and family gatherings.
Survivors include her son, Gene Landry and his wife, Brenda of Coteau Holmes; her daughters, Gale Saintes and Dale Cookie Dauphine both of St. Martinville; her sister, Jenny Theriot of St. Martinville; her grandchildren, Nichole Landry, Eric Dauphine, Brook Dauphine, Kennon Landry, Scott Landry, Amber Landry, Kody Landry, Lacey Landry, Joseph D. Tatum, Jr., John David Tatum, Kary Dale Tatum, Kelly Ray Tatum; and 24 great-grandchildren, Hunter and Braden Dauphine, Mariah Tatum, Jessica and Malakye Tatum, Bethanie Doucet, Cailin, Alec, Audrey, and Ivan Tatum, Isaac, Nicholas and Andrew Tatum, Dyllan and Keaton Landry, Blayze Landry, Treavor, Halley, Briley, and Layke Landry, Brady and Lexi Landry, and Kodi and Noah Freeman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Lucille Champagne Theriot; her husband, Louis Landry; her former husband, Lawrence Landry; and her son, Larry Landry.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009 and continue at 7:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Eric Dauphine, Scott Landry, Kennon Landry, Kary Tatum, John Tatum , Joey Tatum, and Kelly Tatum.
