Juanita Phillips

Cecilia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 17, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for Juanita Phillips, 62, who passed away peacefully on June 11, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Cecilia on Saturday from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM. 

A rosary will be prayed at 8:30 AM on Saturday. 

Rev. Gregory Cormier will officiate the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Tashana Patt and Gina LeBlanc.

Interment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. 

Juanita spent many years working at Martin Mills as a seamstress and was well-respected by her colleagues. Juanita was also a devoted caregiver with a heart of gold. She always put others before herself and never hesitated to help someone in need. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of many people, making her an essential part of their lives.  However, her most significant accomplishments were outside of work - being an amazing wife and mother to her only son and taking care of the people she loved.

Juanita had a passion for decorating and renovation. She enjoyed turning trash into treasures with her creative flair. Her hobbies also included spending time shopping for unique items to add to her collection and doing yard work. Throughout her life, Juanita cherished her family above everything else. She loved spending time with them and planning special events to create lifelong memories that would be cherished forever. She will always be remembered for her kind heart, infectious laughter, and warm smile.

She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Lennis Phillips, Jr.; son, Leland James Phillips; mother, Georgie LeBlanc Batiste; sisters, Linda Noel Livings (Gerald), Brenda Noel Journet (Calvin), Patricia Noel Joseph (Ricky), Martha Noel Calais (Herman); brothers, Earl Noel (Lula);  Linton Noel (Lorena),  David Noel (Laura), Napoleon Noel, Jr. (Renee), Ernest Noel (Gloria); step-siblings, Bernadine Noel (Joseph) and Ronald Batiste (Michelle); mother-in-law, Oriska J. Phillips; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Phillips (Winola) and Leroy Phillips (Angelica); sisters-in-law, Betty Fontenette (Nolan), Judy Phillips (Victor), Mona Phillips-James (Eric) and Malone LeBlanc (Marcus); godchildren, Raylon Castille, Jade Livings, Kendall Journet, Latasha Batiste, Kendre Batiste and Willie Noel, Jr.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, Napoleon Noel, Sr.; brothers, Joseph Noel, Leroy Noel and Edward Noel, Sr.; sister, Barbara Batiste; paternal grandparents, Alcide and Julia Noel; maternal grandparents, Willie and Elby LeBlanc; her father-in-law, Joseph “Curl” Lennis Phillips, Sr. 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Hospice of Acadiana, and to her sisters and nieces for the excellent care and support given to Juanita.

Pallbearers will be Kendall Journet, Dakeylon Noel, Kent Journet, Edward Noel, Jr., Scotty Journet, and Germyrick Shelven.

Honorary pallbearers will be Drake Batiste, Trevor Moore, Dwayne Journet, David Calais, Linton Noel, Earl Noel, Jr., and Brian Batiste.

May her soul rest in eternal peace knowing she has left a lasting impression on all those who knew her.
