Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Breaux Bridge , for Julia Charles Alexander who passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2010 . Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge . Julia Charles Alexander was born on August 24, 1935 to Lillian and Joseph Charles; she was 1 of 15 children. She was united in Holy Matrimony in August 1961 to John Harris Alexander and from that union was born a daughter, Carolyn. Julia and John made their home in Houston , Texas , where she lived for most of her life. She was employed by Texas Southern University for 25 years where she retired. She was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church for 49 years where she was a member of several organizations, which include: Ladies Alter Society, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and the Ladies Sodality. She was also a member of the NAACP. Julia was the life of the party. For years she entertained her family and friends with jokes laughs, and her famous Zydeco dancing. She made strangers smile, and she will always be remembered and missed for her joyful personality She leaves to cherish her memory, her Husband, John H. Alexander, her daughter, Carolyn Haywood of Seattle, Washington; four grandchildren, Talita, Salita, Jeffery, and Leonard Haywood, Jr., all of Seattle, Washington; 16 great grandchildren; sisters, Veronica Simon, Lafayette, LA, and Ida Angelle, Orange, TX; brother, Joseph Charles (Mable), Lafayette, LA; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a tremendous amount of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Portalis Charles Lillian Jones Charles, Sisters, her twin sister, Georgia Charles, Hilda Alexander, Theresa Broussard, Mary Rubin, and Yola Williams; and brothers, Alton, Horace, Nelson, and Walter Charles. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 7 a .m. until 10 a .m. on Saturday. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge, (337.332.2199) is in charge of arrangements.
