New Iberia – Private services will be held at a later date for Julius Fisher Derouen, 64, who passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, in Baton Rouge.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Derouen was born on December 28, 1959, to the late John Walton Derouen and Joyce Ann Champagne Derouen. He was a graduate of New Iberia Senior High and had a passion for planting and caring for pecan trees. Julius also enjoyed cooking and dining on delicious meals. He loved joking and picking with everyone, and was always willing to help others, even giving you the shirt off his back. Julius was a very loving and caring father. He will be deeply missed.
From his grandson, Chad; “Where do I even start. All the trips to Burger King, on Fridays, after school. The countless hours spent picking pecans in the yard. All the hours we spent trying to learn how to spell in the third grade, and I’m still bad at spelling. All the times we’d cook breakfast together. You were there since birth, right next door. To say you will be missed is an understatement. But as of this morning, you couldn’t hold on anymore. You are in a better place now, no more suffering. This isn’t goodbye, it’s see you later. Rest in peace pawpaw.”
Survivors include his daughters, Julia Ann Macier (Robert) and Jessica Derouen Trahan (Charles); grandchildren, Bradley Olivier, Chad Olivier, Aaron Olivier, Abigail Macier, and Kelsey Maylynn Trahan.
