A longtime resident of New Iberia and a former resident of Church Point, Karl Wane Andrus was born in Opelousas, Louisiana on December 11, 1933. He was a retired supervisor from Texas Pipeline. He loved fishing, and had an impressive tool collection. He was a self-taught carpenter, and was very good at it. Although he was legally blind, Karl was a proud member of the NRA, and could outshoot others. He was a permanent fixture at Ace Hardware, where he was an honorary supervisor. He was on the Board and Past President of Affilliated School of the Blind, and was a sponsor for the youth group at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He and Mary Ann also volunteered for Camp Bluebird.
Karl was a simple, practical, tireless, hardworking man. He always had a smile on his face, and a hug for everyone he met. In addition to raising four daughters, Karl enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in all of their activities. He was allowed to watch from the sidelines when three of his grandsons played football for Catholic High School. He was loved by all of the players, and subsequently inherited a whole team of grandsons!
