A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 1, 2014 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Iberia for Katherine Kitty Conrad Schwing, 81, who died Wednesday, November 25, 2014. Entombment will be held in Holy Family Cemetery on a future date. Rev. Thomas Habetz will be the celebrant. Pierre F. Schwing Jr. and Dr. Burt Milton Bujard will proclaim the readings. Gift bearers include Kristin Sztroin, Lily Schwing and Carolyn Cox. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 4:30 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Sunday. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM. Mrs. Schwing was born in New Iberia on December 3, 1932 to Wilfred John Conrad and Olive Landry Conrad. She was a 1950 graduate of Mount Carmel Academy in New Iberia, and then attended Hotel Dieu in New Orleans where she completed the RN program in 1953. She practiced nursing for a few years before getting married and starting a family. She then devoted herself full time to raising her children and caring for her family. She loved socializing with friends in her weekly bridge club and with members of the Fornightly V. Her favorite activities were reading, bird watching, gardening, and decorating her home for family celebrations during various holiday seasons. Survivors include her husband, Pierre Frederick Schwing, Sr; her children Katherine Schwing Heitman and husband Mark of New Iberia, Elizabeth Schwing Sztroin of Lafayette, Christine Schwing Cox and husband Bruce of Houston, Texas, Pierre Frederick Schwing, Jr. and wife Miriam Smith Schwing of New Iberia; sisters Corinne Conrad Bujard and husband Dr. Burt Bujard of New Iberia, Olive Conrad Menville and husband Ronald Menville, Sr. of New Iberia; grandchildren, Christopher Dean Cox of Houston, Texas, Air Force Pilot First Lieutenant Johnathan Ryan Cox of Charleston, South Carolina, Carolyn Christine Cox of Austin, Texas, Katelin Marie Sztroin and Kristin Nicole Sztroin both of Lafayette; Andrew Pierre Schwing and Lily Katherine Schwing both of New Iberia. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Schwing was preceded in death by her brothers, Wilfred John Conrad, Jr. and Jack Raymond Conrad. Pallbearers will be Christopher Dean Cox, Andrew Pierre Schwing, Burt M. Bujard, Jr., Conrad O. Bujard, Keith E. Menville, and Larry G. Fowler, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Katelin Sztroin, First Lieutenant Johnathan Ryan Cox, David Bruce Cox, Mark Richard Heitman, and David Menville. Known for her sweet nature, kind words, and wonderful stories, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed. The family extends sincere thanks to the staff at Maison Teche and Hospice Compassus for the loving care provided to Mrs. Schwing. The family also extends deep appreciation to Leola Chapman, Janie Chastant, and Lottie Moore for their years of devotion to Miss Kitty as well as a special thank you to Olive Menville for her loving assistance with her sister's care. The family request that memorial contributions be made to the charity of choice.
