New Iberia - Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16,2024 at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Kathryn Jean Plaisance Derouen, 92, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Belle Teche Nursing and Rehabilitation Home on Wednesday, November 16, 2024.
Private entombment will take place on Monday, November 18, 2024, in Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. William Blanda will officiate. Readings will be offered by Nanette Derouen Kibbe
Visitation will be Saturday, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday
Mrs. Derouen was born on April 1, 1932, in Morgan City, Louisiana, where she graduated salutatorian of her Central Catholic High School class. She attended Spencer Business College and earned a degree on accounting. She met and married her husband, Dallas J. Derouen, in 1954 and moved to New Iberia. They welcomed one daughter, Bonnie. Mrs. Derouen enjoyed homemaking and was very involved in her daughter’s school and church activities. She was a long-time election commissioner for Iberia Parish. Kathryn worked for the Decourt and Flash families at Iberia Building Systems and retired from Dixie Electric. She was an accomplished seamstress, avid reader and a fan of LSU and New Orleans Saints football. She enjoyed preparing holiday meals and gathering with family, whom she loved dearly. She was a doting grandmother and great-grandmother and always looked forward to summer beach vacations with her family.
Mrs. Derouen is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Derouen Boyer and son-in-law, Stephen Regan Boyer of New Iberia; grandson Stephen Regan Boyer, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Castle Pines, Colorado; great- granddaughters Madeleine and Eloise Boyer of Castle Pines, Colorado; great-granddaughter Sarah Boyer (Gabe Griffin) of New Iberia, great-grandson Chase Boyer (Hannah Ochner) of Lafayette; and great-great granddaughter Julie Ray Griffin of New Iberia, and great-great grandson Malcolm James ‘Mac’ Boyer of Lafayette; and sister-in-law Doris Derouen Vice.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Dallas J. Derouen, her mother Mildred P. Thornton and stepfather William E. Thorton; father-in-law and mother-in-law Alcide and Marie Vincent Derouen; sister-in-law Ethel R. Derouen; and brothers-in law Roy J. Derouen and Loveless J. Vice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, of which Mrs. Derouen was a long-time supporter. The family wishes to thank the community of medical professionals and staff who were involved in her healthcare over these many years, which allowed her to remain active, healthy and independent for many, many years. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to the administration and staff of Belle Teche Nursing and Rehabilitation Home who welcomed her warmly and cared for her with dignity and compassion.
