New Iberia A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday, January 12, 2015 at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for Mrs. Kinta Oubre Dautreuil, 96, the former Kinta Anna Oubre, widow of Collins Dautreuil, passed away to eternal life on Friday, January 9, 2015. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Rev. William Blanda will be the Celebrant, and Rev. Greg Cormier will Con-Celebrate. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. Recitation of the rosary will be at 6:30 PM Sunday with Deacon Jay Bergeron. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM. Her friends called her K her family called her Maw. Born on February 23, 1918 in Adeline, Louisiana, St. Mary Parish, Kinta spent her youth and adult life in New Iberia. She was a student at Mount Carmel Academy and graduated in 1935 as Valedictorian of her class. All her life, Kinta maintained a great love for her favorite teacher, Mrs. Segura, and the Sisters of Mount Carmel, especially Sister Rose Marie OCarm, longtime principal of the school. In 2014 and 2014 the MCA Alumni Association presented her with gifts as the oldest living graduate at the annual banquet. As a member of St. Peters Parish, Kinta taught CCD classes for more than fifty years. She was an active member of the Children of Mary and a volunteer at the St. Francis Diner. She was also an eager participant in the Baby Visiting Committee for over twenty five years. Kinta Anna Dautreuil loved cooking, sewing, gardening, music, dancing, and storytelling. She was a generous friend to many and encouraged others to succeed. Her joy and primary focus over a lifetime was her family. On January 17, 1936, Kinta married Collins Dautreuil. For years she worked side by side with her husband as they built their cleaning and pressing business on Henry Street. When she retired as co-owner of Collins Cleaners, she concentrated on developing her talent as a full time homemaker. She was widely recognized for her cooking and baking skills. She belonged to the Home Demonstration Club and won numerous awards for her Cajun dishes and delectable desserts. Her recipes were regularly featured in the Annual Cookbook published by the Daily Iberian. Kinta was an excellent and enthusiastic seamstress. Mardi Gras was her favorite holiday. She designed and embellished costumes for her husband, family, and friends. In 2001, she reigned as Queen Mother of the Mystic Krewe de Fou, a New Iberia Carnival Organization. She charmed the crowd as she entered the stage dancing to her favorite song, When The Saints Go Marching In. She is loved and remembered for her joyful embrace of life. Survivors include her son, Collins Christopher Dautreuil, II and wife Linda Trappey Dautreuil of Covington; her brother, Lorraine Oubre and wife Rita of Sulphur; her grandchildren, Dr. A. Todd Babineaux and wife Gwen Judice Babineaux, Kinta Kitty Babineaux Metz and husband Robert Metz, and Collins Christopher Dautreuil III all of New Iberia; eight great grandchildren, Dennie Haydel and husband Scott, Dr. Brooks Babineaux and wife Allie, Sarah Trosclair and husband Tim, Steven Metz and wife Ashley, Alex Babineaux, Hailey Babineaux, Dustin Waguespack and wife Ali, Lindsey Waguespack, and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty five years, Collins Dautreuil; her daughter, Juliet Dautreuil Babineaux; her son-in-law, Antoine Gerald Babineaux; her parents, Alphonse and Therese Oubre; her sister, Maline O. Trahan; and a baby brother, R.D. Oubre. Pallbearers will be Collins Christopher Dautreuil II, Collins Christopher Dautreuil III, Dr. A. Todd Babineaux, J.C. Arceneaux, Dr. Brooks Babineaux, and Alan Dautreuil. Honorary pallbearers include Robert Metz, Steven Metz, Alex Babineaux, and Dustin Waguespack.
