Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Kirk John Barilleaux, Sr. 69, who died Sunday, April 3, 2005 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Mr. Barilleaux graduated from S.L.I. in 1958 and he was elected President of The Newman Club. ?He retired from the U.S. Army 256th Infantry Brigade as Master Sergeant. ?He also worked as a reporter and photographer for the Teche News. He was very active in his community; he was a volunteer fireman with the Breaux Bridge Volunteer Fire Company for many years and was a Life Member of the State Fireman's Association. ?He also served as a Deputy with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Department. ?He was a past board member of the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Association and was on the founding Board of Directors of the Breaux Bridge Bayou Parade. ?He was also active in St. Bernard Church Parish, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered for the Perpetual Adoration for twenty-two years and also volunteered his time with the St. Bernard/St. Francis Service Center. ?He was a 3rd Degree Knight of the Breaux Bridge Council and a 4th Degree Knight with the Lafayette Council Bishop Dubourg Assembly. ?He was a member of the American Legion Post 133 in Breaux Bridge and the Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include his wife, Almarie ""Peggy"" Whitmore Barilleaux of Breaux Bridge; three sons, Kirk John Barilleaux, Jr. of Houston, TX, Gregory Barilleaux and his wife, Candie E. Barilleaux of Breaux Bridge; and Luke Barilleaux and his wife, Frannie S. Barilleaux of New Iberia; two daughters, Maria Elena Barilleaux and Danielle B. Huval and her husband, Todd, all of Breaux Bridge; his brother, Mearl Barilleaux of New Braunsfel, TX; his sister, Gloria Fuselier of Breaux Bridge; and two grandchildren, Lea A. Barilleaux and Holden J. Huval.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lionel Charles Barilleaux and Gertrude Martin Barilleaux; and three brothers, Ira C. Barilleaux, L.C. Barilleaux and Donald Barilleaux.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 7:30 AM - 10 PM on Tuesday and continue at 7:30 AM on Wednesday until time of service.
A rosary will be recited at 7 PM Tuesday evening.
Pallbearers will be Jody ""Jo-Jo"" Huval, Sonny Whitmore, Terry Barilleaux, Don Olivier, J. Burton Dupuis and Raymond Pellerin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Todd J. Huval, Keith J. Roseberry, and members of the Breaux Bridge Volunteer Fire Company.
