Larry was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church. The Catholic faith was very important in his childhood home; prayer was his foundation and a major part of his life. Larry honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was a long-time resident of St. Martinville and Marksville. Larry grew up at Pine Grove on Cemetery Road, beside the former Pine Grove Canning Plant, founded by his parents. He was an avid outdoorsman - he enjoyed gardening, tending to his fruit and vegetable trees, camping, fishing, and raising pigeons and chickens. He obtained his degree in accounting from LSU in Baton Rouge. He worked as a Legislative Auditor for the State of Louisiana until he retired in 1985. Larry will be remembered for his gregarious nature and generous spirit. In his last few years, Larry showed immense appreciation for all those who cared for him, including, family, doctors, nurses, and other caregivers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by three sisters, Rita Durand Voorhies, Emelina Durand Wetzel and Doris Marie Durand Zappi; and his brother-in-law, Arthur Landman. He had 49 nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonce Durand, Sr. and Louella Wiltz Durand; sisters, Melba Durand Duchamp, Grace Durand Bienvenu, Celine Durand Willis, Marie Claire Durand Gahn, Frances Durand Landman and Louella Durand; and brother, Leonce Durand, Jr.
