Laura C. Melancon

Cecilia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 18, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia honoring the life of Laura C. Melancon, 87, who passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024. 

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Cecilia on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm. It will continue on Friday from 8:00 am until 10:30 am.

A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Thursday evening by Karleen Berard.

Father Garrett McIntyre will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Janelle Melancon and Brittany Ducote. Gift Bearers will be Grace, Mia and Claudia Hebert and Cohen Ducote. Musicians will be Laura Huval, Maegan Rankin, Kyle Hebert and Claudia Hebert. 

Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Laura was strong in her faith as a devout Catholic. She was a member of the St. Joseph Ladies Altar Society, as well as a 50+ year member of Volunteers for Family and Community in St. Martin Parish. Laura loved watching sports and spending time at the camp fishing. She enjoyed traveling and going to restaurants. Laura was exceptionally good at doing arts and crafts, cooking and baking. Above all, she loved to spend time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. 

She is survived by her daughters, Nelda Hebert (Merrill) and Cathy Berard (David); son, Kenneth "Skin" Melancon (Janelle); grandchildren, Kyle Hebert (Bridgette), Joshua Hebert (Sonia), Brittany Berard Ducote (John), Ryan Berard (Breanna), Bryce Berard (Paige), Kasey Melancon (Candis) and Devin Melancon (Kathryn); and great-grandchildren, Grace, Mia, Claudia, Cohen, Wyatt, Rose, Camille, Andrew and Cooper.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Labbe "L.J." Melancon; parents, Percy Courville and Malvina Angelle Courville; sisters, Tullie Kidder and Patsy Clause; and brothers, Will Courville, Norman Courville and Lowell Courville. 

Pallbearers will be Kyle Hebert, Joshua Hebert, Ryan Berard, Bryce Berard, Kasey Melancon and Devin Melancon. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Merrill Hebert and David Berard.
