Arnaudville- Funeral services will be held at 11 a .m. , on Saturday, September 24, 2011 , at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville, for Laura Marie Chenier, 102, who passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at her residence.
Fr. Keenan Brown will officiate at the funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Fantazia Minix and Sheritta Glover. Gift Bearers will be Mildred Mallet and Mary Metz. Interment will follow at St. Leo the Great Cemetery in Leonville.
Miss Chenier was a parishioner of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Arnaudville. She loved praying the Rosary in French and would do so daily. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, as well as cooking, gardening, playing cards with family and friends, and coloring with the children. She will long be remembered for her wonderful storytelling.
Survivors include two sisters, Media Mary Mallet of Arnaudville and Lucille Chenier Williams of Opelousas ; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Odelon and Alzina Harris Chenier; three brothers, Maurice, Kaiser, and Rogers Chenier; and four sisters, Beatrice Thomas, Odelia Roberson, Lillian Chenier and Virginia Chenier.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue on Saturday at 7 a .m. until 10:30 a.m.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Mallet, O. Jordan Mallet, Mosses Williams, Sr., Seth Daigle, Herman Charles, Jr., and Ronnie Robertson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Mallet, Sr., Selby Daigle, Farice Daigle, Jr., Herman Charles, Sr., Donald Mallet, Jr., Mark Collins, Joe Broussard, Darrel Minix, Farice Daigle, Sr., Joseph Mallet, Jr., Gilbert Jerry, Jr., Tyrone Glover, Louis Collins, Jr., John Gradney, Calvin Catalon, Kendall Lawson, and Keyon Alex.
