A rosary, led by the Catholic Daughters, will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Thursday.
Leo J. Fremin was born on June 10, 1928, in Coteau, Louisiana, to the late Aladin and Electa Girouard Fremin, and proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. His military service was a testament to his love for his country and his willingness to defend its values.
Leo's professional journey began with an impressive 18-year tenure at New Iberia National Bank. His hard work and commitment to excellence led him to a new chapter in his career as the Deputy Clerk of Court for Iberia Parish. After retiring from this role, Leo continued to serve his community by working on the Jury Commission.
Leo had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought joy into his life. He reveled in spending time outdoors, nurturing both vegetable and flower gardens with incredible care and dedication. His green thumb was admired by all who saw the vibrant blooms he cultivated. Leo also found pleasure in reading and cherished the opportunity to explore new worlds through books. And let us not forget his occasional indulgence - sharing a glass of wine with loved ones brought him great delight.
One of Leo's proudest accomplishments was his longstanding commitment to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where he was a longtime faithful member. For half a century, Leo lent his beautiful voice to the church choir, filling every note with devotion and love. Together with his beloved wife Florence, they graciously volunteered their time every Monday in the church office for many years. Leo was a true prayer warrior, faithfully praying for a long list of individuals every day. His commitment to lifting others in prayer was a testament to his compassionate nature and his unwavering faith. The depth of Leo's dedication did not go unnoticed, as he and Florence were honored to receive the Bishop's Service Award in August 2012. This recognition symbolized their selflessness and the impact they had on their community.
Mr. Fremin is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Florence Broussard Fremin; daughter, Leslie Boudreaux (Donald); son, Courtney Fremin (Pam); a sister, Verna Morvant; seven grandchildren, Courtney Olivier (Katie), Jordan Boudreaux (Samantha), Kara Merritt (Paul), Jared Boudreaux (Maizy), Brittney Rogers (Anthony), Josh Boudreaux (Mary), and Cameron Fremin (Kaley); and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Curley Fremin, Mazie Myers, Nolan Fremin, twin sister, Leona Moore, and Rowena Comeaux.
Pallbearers are Courtney Olivier, Jordan, Jared and Josh Boudreaux, Cameron Fremin, Paul Merritt, and Anthony Rogers.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. James Falterman and staff, especially Nicole and Lenise; his caregivers, Brandi MacDaniel and Gail Johnson; the staff of Our Lady of Lourdes 5th floor TCU; and Kelly Spurgeon with Lourdes Palliative Care for extraordinary care and compassion.
Mr. Fremin leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion. He touched the hearts of countless people with his gentle spirit and warm smile. As we bid farewell to Leo, let us remember him for the impact he made on our lives and the memories we were privileged to share with him.
