Coteau - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, August 26, 2011 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau for Leonard John Breaux, 92 who died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in Lafayette . Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery . Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant. Readers include Brandon Breaux and Beverly Vidrine. Born on January 27, 1919 in Loreauville, Mr. Breaux engaged in World War II, in the South Pacific Campaign in New Guinea , Philippines , and Japan , as a combat engineer constructing airfields, bridges, and railroads. Post war memberships include the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Sons of the American Revolution. His beliefs in the Almighty Father kept him steadfast during his 92 years. As a Eucharistic Minister, co founder of Knights Columbus Council 5111, and Louisiana State Marshall for the Fourth Degree, he chose to serve the Lord. In his daily endeavors, he provided food and clothing through his ownership of Chastant and Breaux General Store on the Solitude Plantation, in the community of Lozes , Louisiana . Mr. Breaux was also a member of the Order of Creole Gourmets. As a realtor, Notary and Custodial of Elections, he sought advancement of our basic rights. As a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Pappy instilled love, forgiveness, and kindness. Survivors include his wife, Olga Chastant Breaux; son, H. Lynn Breaux of Lafayette; brothers, F.C. Breaux and wife Goldie of Loreauville, Lester Breaux of Port Arthur, Texas; sisters, Anite B. Gondron of Loreauville, Stella B. Broussard of Abbeville; grandchildren, Bert Breaux , Brandon Breaux and wife Michelle, Bryce Breaux; great grandchildren, Braxton Breaux, Amelia Breaux, Merdith Breaux; mother of his grandchildren, Sue Breaux; special friend, Mary Jo Broussard; caregivers, Karen Pinckard and Krista Nations. He was preceded in death by parents, Ferdinand Clet Breaux, Sr. and Dozia Gonsoulin Breaux; brothers, Bertin Breaux, Felix Breaux; sisters, Etta B. Dugas, Jeanne B. Dugas, and Lelia B. Boutte. Pallbearers will be members of the Msgr. Langlois Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd , in New Iberia . A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Thursday.
