New Iberia - Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Leonard 'Jap' Dorsey, 69, who died on Monday, April 29, 2013 in New Iberia, after a lenghty battle with 'Agent Orange'. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Tuesday. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM. A native and longtime resident of New Iberia, 'Jap' served his country in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Sports Center and Domino Hall, and with his children and family. A graduate of New Iberia High School, he was a former football player for the late Coach Baston Dugas, and was a member of the New Iberia Boxing Club, having boxed in the Golden Gloves Competition in Lafayette. 'Jap' took pride with all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with all of them. He loved them all very much. Survivors include his wife, Terry Gary Dorsey of New Iberia; children, Suzanne D. Prince and husband Brian of Lafayette, Donna D. Cassisa and husband Vincent of New Iberia, Gladys D. Giarratano and husband Michael of New Iberia, Duane L. "Bull ;Dog" ;Dorsey and wife Kimberly of New Iberia, Jared P. Dorsey and wife Ashley of Lafayette, and Ella Betty Dorsey; grandchildren, Thadd Prince and wife Peggy, Brock Prince and wife Reed, Ryan Prince all of Lafayette, Jonathan Dorsey of New Iberia, Jennifer Cassisa of New Iberia, Rachael Giarratano and Seth Giarratano both of New Iberia, Kyler Dorsey and wife Tiffany of New Iberia, Jordan Dorsey of Lafayette, Caitlin Boudreaux and Nicholas Boudreaux both of New Iberia, Linden Dorsey of Lafayette; ;great grandchildren, Zedric, Baylie, Hayes, Hunter, Ollie Grace, Braxton, Tyra, Kashtyn, Chase, and Zachary, who is due to arrive any moment. He is also survived by his sister, Ruby D. Guilbeaux of Lydia; half-brothers, Johnny Dore of New Iberia, Michael Dore of Cade; step sisters, Judy D. Gorman of Delcambre, Judy D. Baker of New Iberia; step brothers, Allen Dorsey of New Iberia, and Eddie Dorsey of Loreauville. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Estus ;"Pete" ;Dore, and Ella Broussard Dorsey Dore; brother, J.C. Dorsey; step-brothers, Walter Dore, Joseph 'Joe-Joe' Dore, Leonard 'Coco' Dorsey, and Ricky Dorsey; step sister, Ruby Dore. Pallbearers will be Thadd Prince, Brock Prince, Ryan Prince, Jonathan Dorsey, Seth Giarratano, Kyler Dorsey, Jordan Dorsey, and Nicholas Boudreaux. Honorary pallbearers include Moise Romero, Harry Bayard, Gill Primeaux, John Broussard, Pat Gros, Jimmy Derouen, Bobby Broussard, Cliff Breaux, Ray Dartez, and former members of the New Iberia Boxing Club and, the Sports Center Crew.
