LeRoy Gros

November 23, 1923 — June 4, 2008

New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, June 6, 2008, at Pellerin Funeral Home, in New Iberia for LeRoy Gros, 84, who died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 in New Iberia. Deacon Ken Waguespack will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. A native of Labadieville, Louisiana and longtime New Iberia resident, LeRoy retired as a superintendent for Texaco after 36 years of service. A veteran of the United States Army, LeRoy served our country as a paratrooper of the 101st Airborne Division, 506th Company C during World War II. He jumped on D-Day into Normandy, participated in Operation Market Garden in Holland and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne. At the end of the war he was at Hitler's Eagle's Nest in Berchtesgaden. He received many decorations and citations for his valor: ?the EAMETO Medal, the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Bronze Cluster and the World War II Victory Medal. Survivors include his children, George T. Gros and wife Carol, William ""Billy"" M. Gros, Barabara G. Tuite and husband Patrick, Jean M. Gros and Sandy G. Henderson, all of New Iberia; his brother Dudley A. Gros and wife Jolen; grandchildren, Thomas P. Gros and wife Shannon, Kevin M. Gros and wife Dr. Nano Zeringue-Gros, Dr. Michael P. Tuite, Dr. Erin T. Lasseigne and husband Dr. Kevin Lasseigne, Meaghan E. Tuite and Elizabeth N. Henderson; great- grandchildren, Isabelle G. Gros and Charlotte K. Gros. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lilly Sumrall Gros; parents, George J. Gros and Lula Boudreaux Gros; sister, Sadie G. Morgan and granddaughter, Shannon E. Tuite. Pallbearers will be Billy Gros, Thomas Gros, Kevin Gros, Dr. Michael Tuite, Darryl Gros and Woody Gros. Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Tuite and Dr. Kevin Lasseigne. A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Thursday evening. Visitation will continue Friday from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana and Delaune's Pharmacy for their care and compassion given to Mr. Gros.
