New Iberia - Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 5, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in New Iberia, for Leroy Lawrence Perez, Sr, 77, who passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2009 in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Rev. Scott Bullock will officiate.
Born on February 18, 1932 in Thibodaux, Mr. Perez proudly served our country in the United States Army, during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal for his service in the Korean War. He is a retired cook having worked for Universal Sodexho for over 20 years and is a lifetime member of the VFW. Mr. Perez enjoyed cooking, bowling, playing golf and most of all spending time with his family.
Survivors include his son, Leroy L. Perez, Jr., of New Iberia; daughters, Trinna Boatman and husband Marty of New Iberia, Rona Vaughn and husband Mark of New Iberia, Roxanne Castille and husband Kirk of New Iberia, Tina Waldmann and husband Doug of New Iberia; brother, Robert Benjamin Perez of Morgan City; grandchildren, Zachary Vaughn, Anthony Boatman, Dustin Boatman, Trevor Boatman, Erin Boatman, Allison Perez Babineaux, Christina Anderson, Noah Castille, Benjamin Perez, Caitlyn Waldman; great grandchildren, Lyla Boatman, Amelie Boatman, Luke Babineaux, and twins due to arrive in August.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Betty Dugan Perez; parents, Benjamin Baptiste Perez and Mary Anna Cortez Perez; brother, Anatole, Rodney, Calice; sisters, Mary Anna Hannah, Rita Thibodeaux, Pearl Thibodaux, and Gretel Brock.
Pallbearers will be Zachary Vaughn, Anthony Boatman, Dustin Boatman, Trevor Boatman, Brooks Babineaux, and Gavin DuBois.
Honorary Pallbearers include Robert Perez, Noah Castille, Benjamin Perez, Luke Babineaux, and Matthew Brady.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 1:30 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. Visitation will continue Thursday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
