New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Monday, May 12, 2008, at St. Peter Catholic Church, in New Iberia for Lillian Ackal Johnson, 87, who died Thursday, May 8, 2008 in New Iberia Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Jude Halphen will be the Celebrant. Readers will be Carmen Alvarez and Allison Alvarez. Gift Bearers include Leah McGahee, Lauren Cluchey, Rachel Alvarez. A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Johnson managed George Ackal General Merchandise Store on the corner of Hopkins and Washington for over 60 years. She enjoyed being around people and playing cards. Survivors include her son, Richard Johnson, Jr. and wife Virginia of New Iberia; daughter, Simone Johnson of New Iberia; sisters, Stella Barnett, Lucille Powell, Marie Haik, and Elaine Dore all of New Iberia; grandchildren, Rachel Alvarez and husband Lt. Col. Oscar Alvarez of Fredericksburg, VA; Richard Johnson, III and wife Kacy of Perryton, TX; Leah McGahee and husband Richard of Houston, Sean Cluchey and Lauren Cluchey of Houston; great grandchildren, Carmen Alvarez, Allison Alvarez, Jake Alvarez, and Cali Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Ackal, Sr. and Adel Gabriel Ackal; husband, Richard Johnson, Sr.; son, Alden Johnson; brothers, William Ackal, Louis Ackal, Joe Ackal, and George Ackal. Pallbearers will be Richard Johnson, III, Sean Cluchey, Lt. Col. Oscar Alvarez, Richard McGahee, Ed Dore, and Louis Ackal. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday, from 3:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Sunday.
