Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2006, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Lillian Bonin Simon who went to her rest at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge.
Entombment will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Visitation will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Fr. Don Leger, pastor of St. Bernard Catholic Church, will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the services. Musical selections will be sung by a close family friend, Francis LeBlanc.
Pallbearers are, Kippy Babineaux, Earl Dupuis, Jack Dale Delhomme, Robert Bonin, Harry Bonin, and Sam Bonin.
Mrs. Simon was recognized as a respected businesswoman having stood side-by-side by her husband, Michel for over 70 years in the retail business they started and ran together on Main Street in Breaux Bridge. The small general merchandise store grew into a shopping center which featured a full grocery store, butcher shop, womens apparel, fabric and pharmacy operated by her son, Carl. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the American Legion Auxiliary Society.
Mrs. Simon was an avid gardner and grower of African Violets. She also enjoyed collecting fine porcelain antiques and sewing. Accompanied by her granddaughters, she traveled extensively, having visited every continent in her lifetime.
She is survived by her son, Carl Michel Simon, and his wife, Renella Guidry Simon; her brothers, Sam, Harry and Alcide Bonin; her sister, Mrs. Leo (Gussie) Delahoussaye; five granddaughters, Carleen Simon-Yates, Liz Dejean, Karen Durio, Rene Babineaux and Simone Simon; and seven great granddaughters, Lauren Durio, Caroline Dejean, Natalie Dejean, Alexandra Yates, Maggie Durio, Shelby Kate Babineaux and Sydney Babineaux.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes Arsene Breaux and Alcide Bonin, her husband, Michel Simon and her son, Chester Lee Simon as well as her brother, Alvin Bonin.
The Simon family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the caretakers at St. Martin Hospital and St. Agnes Nursing Home. A special thanks to Dr. Deidre Stelly for her compassionate care and to Otelia LeBlanc for her lifelong attendance and companionship.
