Linda Thomassee Guidry

Cecilia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, January 27, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for Linda T. Guidry, 77, who passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at her residence.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Monday from 7:30 am until 2:30 pm.

A Rosary will be prayed by her family members at 11:30 am on Monday morning.

Father Gregory Cormier will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Cheryl Guidry and Chelsy Taylor. Gift Bearers will be Millie Barousse and Lucette Vincent.

Linda was a proud and active resident of Cecilia for her entire life. She was a graduate of Cecilia High School and earned a degree at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1975. She also obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Administration and Supervision, a Master's degree from the School of Education, and completed 30 credits toward her Doctorate at LSU.

Linda served as a dedicated teacher in St. Martin Parish and held the position of President of the St. Martin Parish Association of Educators. She joined the Louisiana Association of Educators as a UniServ Director and ultimately retired as their Executive Director in 2017. 

Among her greatest accomplishments were securing collective bargaining rights as part of the Vermilion teachers and support professionals strike and playing a key role in the election of John Bel Edwards to two terms as Governor of Louisiana. A lifelong advocate for quality public schools, she was committed to enhancing educational opportunities for Louisiana students and their communities.

In addition to her professional achievements, Linda loved to travel the world and was a true beach lover, always eager to place her toes in the sand. She enjoyed dancing at her local dance hall and was an avid listener of Elvis Presley. She cherished attending plays at the Sanger Theater in New Orleans and on Broadway in New York City with friends.

The most important part of her life was spending time on the river party barge, hosting holiday meals, and enjoying special moments with her sisters and children at the beach and spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Lance Guidry (Tina); daughters, Stacey Guidry (Dane) and Holli Guidry; brothers, Frank Thomassee, Jr. (Donna) and Bryant Thomassee; sisters, Jacqueline Dauphine (Donald), Cheryl Guidry (Curnal), Drucilla Chauffe (Tom) and Lucette Vincent; grandchildren, Chelsy Taylor (Justin) and Tori Guidry (Lacey); and great-grandchildren, Lila, Liam, Aubrey and Cameron.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Guidry; grandchild, Alex Guidry; parents, Lorna Domingeaux Thomassee and Frank Thomassee, Sr.; brother, Bill Thomassee; and sister, Elaine Thomassee.

Pallbearers will be Lance Guidry, Frank Thomassee, Jr., Bryant Thomassee, Tori Guidry, Justin Taylor and Dane Guidry.

Honorary Pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren, Lila, Liam, Aubrey and Cameron.
