It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Lloyd Joseph Viator, Jr., age 86, who left us February 5, 2025, at his residence. He was a loving husband and father who lived a long and fulfilling life filled with adventure, love, and a true passion for the things that brought him joy.
A proud graduate of St. Peter's College, class of 1957, Lloyd began his career with a strong foundation, later earning a degree from Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL). Before starting his career, Lloyd proudly served for eight years in the National Guard, an experience that helped shape his character and commitment to service.
In his career, Lloyd led with integrity and dedication as Vice President at Sigma Coatings of the Offshore Division. His leadership and expertise made a lasting impact on the company, and he built many relationships that lasted well beyond retirement. After stepping away from his career, he devoted his time to the things he truly loved—his farm, his horses, and the wide-open pastures that he cherished. Whether he was on the tractor or riding his four-wheeler, he found peace in the outdoors, often staying out until dark tending to his animals and his land.
Lloyd had a curiosity about the world, always seeking new experiences—especially when it came to food. Whether it was discovering a hidden gem of a restaurant or exploring exotic cuisines while traveling, he was always eager to try something new. His love for traveling took him far and wide across the globe, in places such as Trinidad, France, South Germany, Rome, and Venice but he found just as much fulfillment at home, where his heart was with his beloved family and animals.
He had a deep love for horses, particularly racehorses, and spent many hours training and caring for them. There was a special bond between him and his animals, one that highlighted his relentless dedication and strong work ethic. This commitment led to his success on the racetrack, where his hard work paid off as he won several races, a testament to his expertise and devotion to his horses.
He was a lover of the simple pleasures, like shopping for a bargain or reminiscing about his family's rich history, which he could recall with incredible detail, always eager to share stories of ancestors and relatives.
For 62 years, Lloyd was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Georgia. He supported her in everything she did. Together, they created a life full of memories, laughter, and love. He and Georgia raised five children who carried his values of hard work, kindness, and dedication.
Though he was an accomplished mathematician, spelling was never his strong suit, and that was something he and his family laughed about. His ability to solve problems and crunch numbers was impressive, even if a few words were always a little tricky.
Lloyd also enjoyed a good western movie, often relaxing in front of the screen as he reminisced about the greats of the genre, which mirrored the values he lived by—honor, determination, and a sense of adventure.
He will be remembered as a man who lived life to its fullest, always curious, always willing to try something new, and always supportive for those he loved. His family and friends will miss him deeply.
