A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, April 14, 2023, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum. Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home and will continue at the Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church on Friday, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.
A rosary, led by his children, will be prayed at 6:30 pm on Thursday, at Pellerin Funeral Home.
Lloyd was born February 14, 1943 to Lloyd A. Nicholson Sr, and Lessie Babineaux Nicholson. He was a 1961 graduate of Catholic High School and attended (as he continued to call it) the University of Southwestern Louisiana. There he met the love of his life, Carmen deMahy. They were married for over 57 years.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Carmen deMahy Nicholson and their children: Katherine Nicholson Breaux and her husband Vic, Nancy Anne Nicholson, Lloyd Nicholson, III and his wife Mary, Amy Nicholson Braun and her husband Byron and Jenny Nicholson Gonsoulin and her husband Ryan. His grandchildren: Dylan Clay Breaux and his wife Natasha, Dariane Elizabeth Breaux, Sadie Schoeffler Whitehurst and her husband Gus, Damien Robert Dawson Breaux and his fiancé Julia Carraway, Garrett Christopher Schoeffler, Carmen Jennifer Gonsoulin, Jacob Christopher Braun, Ryan Michael Gonsoulin Jr, Elizabeth Katherine Braun, Lucy Anne Nicholson and Lloyd Nicholson, IV. Great-grandson Bennett Vance Breaux and step-great-grandsons Drake LeCompte and Wyatt LeCompte. His sister Lynette Nicholson Gosnell and her husband Allen. As well as, his deMahy brothers and sisters in laws and all his nieces and nephews, and godchildren, whom he loved dearly.
Lloyd was an Iberia Parish Police Jury member, representing District 8 from 1976 to 1984. He was a member of Come Lord Jesus and an Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Nativity Church. Lloyd worked all of his life in some aspect of the trucking business, with Dutch Gosnell’s, Intracoastal Truck Lines, and Venture Transport. He retired in 2006 which gave him time to enjoy his passions– spending time in his woodworking shop and watching his grandchildren participate in their various activities. He never missed a game or performance.
He was loved by his children’s and grandchildren’s friends and they all fondly called him “Popa Lloyd.” We often laughed at the fact that he continued to support and attend Catholic High School’s sporting events, even when he didn’t even know anyone on the field. He was an avid ULL sports fan as well. He loved nothing more than enjoying the Ragin Cajuns at football, basketball and softball games with his family.
Lloyd and Carmen raised their children in a Catholic faith-filled home, and because of that, we are at peace and cannot begin to imagine the reception he received in heaven, welcomed by his loved ones that went before him. We know that when he saw God’s face, he said proudly as he looked down on his family, “ I did this, I made this and I bring this to you Lord!”
Ten years ago, to thank our parents for the sacrifices they made to provide us all with a Catholic education, we established the “Nicholson Family Scholarship Fund” at Catholic High School. This scholarship provides tuition assistance to girls who play either softball or basketball and possess the spirit of Mt. Carmel Academy. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation to the Nicholson Family Scholarship Fund in his memory.
