New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 24, 2024, (a rosary will be prayed at 9:30 am) at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Lois Ann Robertson, 78, who passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, February 12, 2024, surrounded by family.
Burial will be in San Pablo, California at a later date.
Lois Ann Robertson was born on April 10, 1945, in St. Martinville, Louisiana, to the late Howard and Gladys St. Julien. A lifelong devout Catholic, Lois found solace in her faith. For many years she was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in El Cerrito, California. She and Collins moved there in 1965 until his retirement in 2007, when they relocated to New Iberia. In 2013, together they built their dream home—a magnificent "Graceland style" residence nestled in the heart of Squirrel Run.
Lois was an exceptional cook and had an undeniable talent for creating delectable Creole dishes. Her culinary skills were truly extraordinary; she could have easily opened her own restaurant with great success.
Lois had various interests that enriched her life. She loved shopping, reading books, watching movies, and listening to music—particularly Elvis and country tunes. During her children's formative years, Lois served as a Den mother for her son’s boy scout troops, the yard teacher at their school, and became the nurturing "neighborhood mom" who always looked out for the well-being of all the neighborhood children.
Generosity flowed through Lois's veins like a mighty river. She exemplified selflessness by giving freely to charities close to her heart, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and organizations supporting veterans. Her compassion left a lasting impact on those she helped along the way.
However successful she may have been in other endeavors, Lois always held family above all else. Her unwavering love and dedication to her husband of 57 years, her four children and nine grandchildren were unmatched. She was very close to all of her siblings. She cherished every moment spent with them and made sure they knew how much they meant to her.
Mrs. Robertson is survived by three children, Sean Robertson (Elena), Joey Robertson, and Leslie Russell (Melvin); siblings, Velma Roche’ (Edward), Nolan St. Julian, Patricia DeRouen, Linda LeBlanc, and Judy Robertson; grandchildren, Michael, Alex, and Erika Robertson, Connor, Ava, Nathan, and Mia Robertson, and Jason and Anaiya Russell; godson, Keith DeRouen; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Collins Robertson; her son, David Robertson; sister-in-law, Doris St. Julian; and brothers-in-law, Mickey DeRouen, Mark LeBlanc, and Charles Robertson.
Pallbearers will be Sean Robertson, Joey Robertson, Michael Robertson, Jason Russell, Melvin Russell, Nathan Robertson, and Giy Bonin.
Honorary pallbearers will be her loving son, David Robertson (deceased), Nolan St. Julian Sr., Nolan St. Julian Jr., Michael St. Julian, Joseph Dana Gathe, Christopher Gathe, Keith DeRouen, Barry DeRouen, and Ken Robertson.
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow at the loss of such an extraordinary woman, we find solace in the fact that Lois lived a life full of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. May her soul find eternal peace as she reunites in heaven with the love of her life, Collins, and her son, David who held a special place in her heart. We will love you, miss you, and plan to honor you forever.
