New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at10:00 am on Monday, February 4, 2019, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Loretta "Nicki" Buteau, 83, who passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Entombment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Korey LaVergne will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 6:00 pm Sunday. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
Mrs. Buteau was born on July 27, 1935 to the late Harry Hebert and Bernice LeBlanc and was a graduate of New Iberia High School. A devout Catholic, she taught religion for many years and served on the Parish Council at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the bereavement committee. Mrs. Buteau played Pokeno with the same group of ladies for 45 years, and she also enjoyed spending time with her family who she loved dearly.
Survivors include her daughters, Donneil B. Doucet and husband Ricky of New Iberia, Johnna B. Viator and husband DeLain of New Iberia; grandchildren, Brandi Babineaux and husband Nicholas, Lanie D. Ball and husband Bo, Shane Doucet, Breigh V. Bourque and husband Skylar; great grandchildren, Elliot Ball, Caroline Babineaux, Lillian Babineaux, Evan Ball; brother-in-law, Kenneth Vega; niece, Kimberly Vega; nephew, Keith Vega; and her beloved dog, “Remi”
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Arthur "Tut" Buteau; father, Harry Hebert; mother, Bernice LeBlanc Segura; and a sister, Kathryn Vega.
Pallbearers will be Nick Babineaux, Elias Ball, Shane Doucet, Shawn Hernandez, Sandy Derise, and Keith Vega.
Honorary pallbearers include Kenneth Vega, Skylar Bourque, and all of her Pokeno ladies.
