St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, August 15, 2008, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Lou Ella Cecile Trahan Dugas, 92, who passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at her residence.
Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum, in St. Martinville.
Msgr. J. Douglas Courville, Pastor of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, will officiate at the funeral Mass.
Raising her family was the most important thing in her life. She enjoyed working in her flowers, cooking for the family, sewing and reading. She was one in a million.
She is survived by four sons, Huey J. Dugas (wife Hope), L. J. Dugas (wife Janie), Bobby J. Dugas (wife Linda), all of St. Martinville, and Ned P. Dugas, of Loreauville; five daughters, Earline (Mrs. Alton) Bonin, of Loreauville, Terry (Mrs. Butch) Dupuis, Vickie (Mrs. Shenny) Duplechain, Louella (Mrs. Durphy) Blanchard, and Joy (Mrs. Chickley, Jr.) Thibodeaux, all of St. Martinville; two sisters, Thelma (Mrs. Pete) Melancon, and Mary Jane Lagrone, all of Breaux Bridge; her daughter-in-law, Elaine Viator (Mrs. Ward, Sr.) Dugas; 41 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren; and 23 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Dugas, Sr.; her parents, Letaire and Bertha Champagne Trahan; two sons, James J. Dugas, Jr. and Ward J. Dugas, Sr.; ;two daughters-in-law, Elaine Louviere (Mrs. Ned) Dugas and Theresa Broussard (Mrs. James, Jr.) Dugas; three grandsons, Lee James Crochet, Lonnie J. Dugas, and Walter Dugas; one granddaughter, Nancy Dugas; one sister, Birdie Brasseaux and her husband, Andres; and three brothers, John Trahan, Edward and his wife, Mary LeBlanc Trahan, and James and his wife, Shirley Roberts Trahan.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Thursday and continue at 7 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Shane Babin, Boboy, Beanie, Chris, and Eric Dugas, and Jimmy Dupuis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Casey, Fabian, Jason, Tommy and Butch Dugas, and T-Boy LeBlanc.
The family would like to extend many heartfelt thanks to her caregiver, Louise Barras, whom she loved dearly and thought of as one of her daughters. To our dear friend, Odile Fuselier, who was always there when we needed a shoulder to cry on. To Acadian Home Care and their loving nurses and staff. To St. Martin Council on Aging for their support. And finally, to Nurse Simone Babineaux and the staff of Louisiana Hospice & Palliative Care who made our last few days with her a true blessing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Acadiana Home Care, St. Martin Council on Aging, or to Louisiana Hospice & Palliative Care.
