Lou Ella Oubre

St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville. Visiting hours will be observed at the funeral home from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm on Tuesday. A rosary will be prayed at 12:00 pm. Rev. Rusty P. Richard will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Pall Bearers honored to serve will be Trent and Tyler Oubre, Cortland Cicardo, John and John Tyler Granato and Norm Thompson. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville. Lou Ella Borel Oubre was a fiercely devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Her four children, Tracy, Trent, Wendy and Tyler, and her seven grandchildren, Cortland, J.T., Frankie, T.J., Grant, Ashley and Wes, were her pride and joy. Lou Ella was born in Catahoula, Louisiana, in 1938 to Valerie Verret and Edwin J. Borel. Her grandparents were Gill J. Verret and Gladys Hebert from Jeanerette. She had two sisters: Hazel Borel Dugas and Mazel Borel Barras and many nieces and nephews. She attended St. Martinville High School class of 1956 and loved her classmates throughout her life. She married John Oubre of Loreauville in 1962. Lou Ellas career path included working for CLECO, teaching French with CODOFIL, volunteering as President of the Jaycee Jaynes 1972/73, and serving as secretary for Lee Street Elementary School in New Iberia for 25 years from 1978 to 2003. In her later years, she loved caring for and planning activities for the residence of Azalea Estates. Anyone who knew Lou Ella can attest to her passion for her pets, being outdoors, slots at the casino, and most of all her Cajun heritage. She is survived by her sons, Trent Oubre and wife Meredith of Baton Rouge, and Tyler Oubre and wife Amber of Lafayette; daughters, Tracy Oubre Thompson and husband Norm of Lafayette, and Wendy Oubre Granato and husband John of Houston, TX; and grandchildren, Cortland Cicardo, John Tyler Granato, Francesca Granato, T.J. Oubre, Grant Thomas Oubre, Ashley Oubre, Wes Oubre, Stephani Granato, Lauren Thompson, Jacob Thompson, Garrison Thompson and Sawyer Thompson. She was preceded in death by her father Edwin J. Borel; mother, Valerie Verret Borel; grandparents Gill J. Verret and Gladys Hebert Verret; sisters, Mazel Barras, Hazel Dugas; and brothers-in law Elton J. Barras and Rogers Dugas. The family would also like to acknowledge all those who loved and cared for her over these past four years.
