Parks - Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, December 24, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parks, for Louis Edward Melancon, 71, who died on Tuesday, December 22, 2009. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Louis and Rhena would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in August of 2010. He was a great husband; he was also the greatest dad in the world. He loved spending time with his family, including his grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of which he adored and cherished. He spent 48 years working for Mr. M.P. Dumesnil (Dumesnil Construction Co., Inc.), of which he was well rewarded. Above all his hobbies, his favorites were hunting and fishing. He leaves all of us with really good memories, and now he watches over all of us. Survivors include his wife, Rhena Touchet Melancon, of Breaux Bridge; one son, Randal Melancon and his wife, Margaret, of Breaux Bridge; two brothers, Maurice Melancon, of Houston, TX, and Donald Melancon, of Patterson; three sisters, Flo Delcambre, of Breaux Bridge, Camille Melancon, of Cecilia, and Jeannine Hernandez, of Judice; eight grandchildren, Mark Allen, Patrick J, Olivia Rose, Lane Michael, Louis Edward, Stephen Paul, Dominic James, and Sophia Clare Melancon; two great grandchildren, James Allen and Maria Elizabeth Melancon; two exceptional friends, Keith and Suzannah Fussell, of Franklinton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Mathilde LeBlanc Melancon; and two grandchildren, Faith Elizabeth and Bryce Melancon. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Wednesday and continue at 8 a.m. until 9:15 a.m. on Thursday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge, (337.332.2111), is in charge of arrangements.
