New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 11, 2013, at St. Peter Catholic Church, in New Iberia for Louise McDonald Mestayer, 89, who died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in New Iberia. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Charles Langlois will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday from 10:00 AM until 1:30 PM. Mrs. Mestayer was born on January 14, 1924 in Comanche, Texas to Sherwood and Estelle Roberson McDonald. She dedicated her life to her beloved husband, Ray, and her seven children. She did all things quietly, with grace and dignity, and with true humility. Through her devotion to her husband and children, her Texan spirit burned brightly. She enjoyed movies, opera, going to the library, and having her friends over for trivia-quiz home parties. She is survived by four sons and two daughters: Mac Donald and his wife Kathi of Williamsburg, Va; Stephen Francis and his wife Adrienne of New Iberia, La; Michael John and his wife Suzanne of Metairie, La; Charles Ray and his wife Jennifer of Lafayette, La.; Michelle Mestayer deLaunay and her husband Gerald of Lafayette, La; and Colleen Louise Mestayer of Hattiesburg, Ms. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray F. Mestayer, her son, Patrick James, and his daughter, Kristen. Pallbearers will be her sons, Mac, Steve, Michael, and Charlie, her son-in-law, Gerald deLaunay. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Mestayer requested donations be made to the New Iberia Public Library or the Iberia Humane Society.
