Lovinia Broussard Singleton, affectionately called by those who knew her, "Mayuet," "Mooie," "T-Mom," and "Gigi," was born on September 30, 1929, in Lafayette, Louisiana and she peacefully departed this life on Thursday, March 13, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved daughter of the late Neolie Jolivette Broussard and Eddie Broussard, Sr.
Lovinia was united in marriage to the love of her life, Freddie Singleton, and together they built a loving home, raising four beautiful daughters: Mary Rose, Lois, Rosalie, and Nellie. She and Freddie worked tirelessly to provide for their children, instilling the values of hard work, love, and selflessness.
Lovinia's faith in God was unwavering. She prayed the rosary daily, even on those days when she may not have been feeling her best. Her devotion to prayer was a testament to her deep and abiding faith.
A true laborer of love, Lovinia had a giving heart and an open door. She found joy in feeding anyone who entered her home, ensuring that no one ever left hungry. Her love language was food, and she took great pride in sharing home-cooked meals, no matter the time of day. She was a nurturing and devoted caregiver, a beloved family cook, and a faithful steward to all who knew her. Compassionate and warm, she touched many lives with her kindness and generosity.
Lovinia had a love for Zydeco music, often finding delight in listening and dancing to its vibrant rhythms. She embraced life with grace and strength, embodying a spicy and zestful spirit that made her truly unforgettable. Though her formal education was limited, she was undoubtedly one of the smartest people one could ever meet. Her wisdom, quick wit, and profound understanding of life made her a cherished confidante and a source of wisdom for those around her.
She had an undeniable love for people, always finding joy in visiting with friends and welcoming guests into her home. She thrived on the presence of loved ones, cherishing every conversation and shared moment. Just when she thought her days of playing outside were behind her, she found herself back in the grass and swinging under the carport, laughing and playing with her great-grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye.
She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy of love: her daughters, Rosalie Singleton Turner and Nellie Singleton; six grandchildren, Rachael (Richard) Mouton, Edgar Broussard, Sr., Nathaniel Dauphine, Monique (Milton) Hawkins, Lawrence Ray Williams, and Vicki Clues; step-grandchildren, Mary Calbert and Brian "Ben" Turner; nine great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, David Clues; sisters-in-law, Leona Andrus, Hilda Broussard, and Myrtle Singleton; along with a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lovinia was preceded in death by her parents, Neolie and Eddie Broussard, Sr.; husband, Freddie Singleton; daughters, Mary Rose Broussard and Lois Clues; step-grandson, Jason Broussard; siblings, Vida Derousselle, Viola Zeno, Lorena Zeno, Eddie Broussard, Jr., Clayton Broussard, Russell Broussard, Nedly Broussard, and Artista Broussard; as well as her sons-in-law, Allen Broussard and Gary Turner.
Lovinia's life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering kindness. Her laughter, wisdom, and nurturing spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
