Lucille A. Brown

April 15, 1936 — September 21, 2006

Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Lucille A. Brown, 70, who died Thursday, September 21, 2006 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. Interment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge. Lucille was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. (T-Lou) Landrus Ames in the Parish of St. Martin on April 15, 1936. ?She was reared in the Breaux Bridge area. ?After her marriage to Nelson Brown in 1950, she still resided in the parish to raise her children. ?From that union 12 children were born. ?As a young woman, Mrs. Lucille lived in and worked here. ?In 1964 they were separated and never to reconcile. ?Lucille was given the task of a lifetime, raising the family alone and guess what - she did it. ?In 1973, they were divorced. Lucille became ill in 1997 with Emphysema, which was hard for her, but still that didn't stop her from ""firing up"" as she said it, when she wanted a cigarette, but as her journey and her struggle continued she lost her son David in March of 1999, he was 35, she continued. ?In November of 2003, she lost her eldest daughter, Beverly and 6 months later in April of 2003, she lost another son, Melvin. ?But she was a tough one, 2 months after that she lost her brother, Joseph Ames and then a year later, ""Her greatest love of all"", also expired, ""Mom T-Lou"" is what we all called her. ?She began to show signs of great deterioration right after her mom's death and at that point, although she had been on oxygen 24/7 for some time now, she still continued. In July of this year was pronounced in her final stage of COPD and that her time here would probably be in the early part of 2007, which is what her Dr's predicted. In early September, she started showing signs of low oxygen to her brain and countless times she would complain with not being able to breathe and would hallucinate, which was hard for her. She suffered the last few days of her life with not having enough oxygen to her brain and from there gaining toxic carbon dioxide poisoning. ?On September 21, 2006, she passed away peacefully, after a long crusade against Emphysema. ?She died at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA at 9:30 p.m. ?The Lord above decided she had suffered enough. ?He called her home to an everlasting life where she did not need oxygen or medication to live...she only needed to make it there...and she did. She leaves to celebrate her home going one son, Clarence J. Brown of Breaux Bridge; three daughters, Prenella A. Brown of Lafayette, Dorothy A. (Herbert) Batiste and Tina M. (Kenneth) Lewis, both of Breaux Bridge; three brothers, Wallace Ames and Leroy Ames, both of Breaux Bridge and Henry Ames of Houston; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Landrus Ames; seven children, Beverly, Melvin, David, Nelson, Jr., Sheila, Louanna and Lisa Brown; two brothers, Landrus J. Ames and Landrus, III; one sister, Baby Harris; and one great grandson, Kendal Jerel Brown. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
