Lucille Jones Mitchell

St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, April 6, 2018, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Lucille Mitchell, 98, who passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at her residence. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Notre Dame Catholic Church from 7:00 am until 11:00 am on Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 am on Friday. Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville. Lucille provided a good life for her family by ironing cloths for others. She meticulously ironed each piece as though it were her own. If Lucille ironed for you, you knew you got your monies worth. Lucille cherished moments spent with her family and friends. As a pastime, she enjoyed baking, cooking, and working in her garden. She raised her family to work hard, be honest, and to never go to bed angry with anyone. She is survived by her loving sons, Herman Mitchell and wife Sandra of Texas City, TX, Horace Mitchell and wife Brenda of St. Martinville, Irvin Mitchell of St. Martinville, and Earl Mitchell of Dallas; daughters, Lillie Hypolite of Texas City, TX, Marion Menard of Breaux Bridge, Beverly Ceaser and husband Jesse of Houston, TX, Betty Cole and husband Calvin of St. Martinville and Janice LaSalle of St. Martinville; brother, Earl Jones of Beaumont, TX; 21 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 7great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Mitchell; son, Harrison Lawrence Mitchell; grandson, Brandon LaSalle; granddaughter, Cherry Butler; parents, Alcee and Cora Polite Jones; brothers, Robert Jones, Luther Jones, Will Jones, Irvin Jones, Albert Jones, and Curl Jones; and sisters, Marie Mitchell, Fannie Benson, and Lillie Mae Jones. Pallbearers will be Melvin Benson, Vincent Hypolite, Corey Cole, Irving Butler, Javion Mitchell, and Kyric Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Herman Mitchell, Horace Mitchell, Irvin Mitchell, Earl Mitchell, Calvin Cole, Jesse Ceaser, Earl Jones, Alvin Stewart, Milton Benson, Curley Benson, and Harold Anthony.
