Lucy Marie Doucette

New Iberia - Arrangements are pending for Lucy Marie Doucette, 69, who passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025. 

Lucy was born in Lafayette, Louisiana on September 20, 1955. She attended Grambling University, then proudly earned her associate’s degree from Delta College. Lucy began her career working first for Power Laundry and then WISE Security. She completed an internship at AT&T in New Iberia, and also worked for the State Unemployment Office.  Then for 37 years, she dedicated her talents and heart to the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) with the State of Louisiana, where she retired. 

Lucy had a zest for life that shone brightly. Her favorite color, burgundy, mirrored her passion and warmth. She found joy in simple pleasures, often playing bingo and video poker. 

Above all, Lucy cherished time spent with her family. 

Ms. Doucette leaves to cherish her memory her companion of 34 years, Linda Kinard of New Iberia; children, Kareem Doucette of Denton, TX, and Alberta Kinard of Lafayette; grandchildren, Kahiya Kinard, A’kaija Kinard, Kondric King, Jr., Antionette Kinard, Antonio Kinard, Ariana Kinard, Nickal Doucette, and Kellie Doucette; great-grandchildren, A’kyree Kinard and Zoey Johnlewis; siblings, Allen Decuir of Bronx, NY, Dwayne Decuir (Angela) Forney, TX, and Tamela Decuir of New Iberia; godchild, Ashly Kinard; aunt, Wanda Thompson of Central Islip, NY; uncles, Joseph Frank of Port Arthur, TX and Herbert Frank of Los Angeles, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Doucette; mother, Audrey Lee Frank Decuir; step-father, Edmond Decuir; brother, Charlie Frank; and daughter-in-law, Andrea Doucette. 

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to her primary care physician, Dr. Timothy Allain Viator; oncologist, Dr. Hemendra Mhadgut; Infusion Center of Iberia Medical Center; Dr. Chenna Nalabolu and the entire staff of Iberia Medical Center; Dr. Kurt O'Brien and staff;  Women's Imaging at IMC North Campus; Helping Hands; and Grace Home Health. You are all angels on earth. 

Lucy’s spirited essence will forever remain in our hearts. May she rest in peace.
