Lucy Olivier Labbe

Lydia - Lucy Rose Olivier Labbe departed this life on April 4, 2018, at ninety eight (98) years. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Lydia. Entombment followed in the St. Nicholas Cemetery in Patouville. Rev. Gregory Chauvin was the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends was held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church from 8:00 am until 11:00 am. A rosary was prayed at 10:00 am. Lucy was a lifelong native of Grand Marais. She is from a time when horse & buggy was transportation and women worked alongside the men in the sugar cane fields. Lucy was known as the tough old lady who mowed her own grass to a ripe age. She was especially proud of her status as the eldest Chitimacha of Grand Marais. Her infinite wisdom and wonderful stories of the old days will be missed by her family and community. She was a member of St. Nicholas Church and Holy Name Society. Lucy leaves to cherish her memory and in Gods care, two daughters: Mildred Labbe Broussard (Robert Cholo) of New Iberia, and Sherral Boutte (Hilton) of Jeanerette; and a granddaughter who is like her daughter, Carla Broussard-Scher (Jonathan) of Lafayette. Additional grandchildren include Kelly Labbe, Robert Richard Broussard, Jr. (Monica), Todd Labbe, Suzanne Broussard Thibodeaux (Shep), Troy Labbe, Sr., Shalita Manuel-Jackson, Monique Broussard, Hillary Manuel (Kiante), and Ashley Manuel. Great grandchildren: Tiffany Thomas Bayuelo (Luis), Shaye Thibodeaux, Niall Broussard, Seighan Thibodeaux, Joshua Labbe, Erica Boutte, Cierra Boutte Barnett (Jeffrey), Denfer Boutte, Jr., Patricia Labbe, Troy Labbe, Jr., Kayla Venible, Faith Jackson, Dylan Venible, Aaron Tillman, Ahmari Manuel; great-great grandchildren: Logan Legendre, Alyssia & Avery Labbe, and Isaiah, Sophia & Liam Barnett; Godchild, Al Thompson, Jr. Lucy is also survived by her sisters: Rita Ledee, Viola Boutte, Alberta Villery, Mary Broussard, and Laura Mae Olivier. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Vernet Valnay Olivier & Theresa Victoria Bello Boutte Olivier; her husband, Sidney Labbe, Sr.; son, Sidney Labbe, Jr.; sisters, Louise Olivier, Lelia O. Butler; brothers; Lon Olivier, George Cotan Olivier, Joseph Boyee Olivier, Allen Olivier; grandson, Patrick Boutte; and Godchild, John Wilfred Boutte. Pallbearers: Robert Richard Broussard, Jr., Todd Labbe, Jonathan Scher, Shaye Thibodeaux, Logan Legendre, Seighan Thibodeaux. Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, New Iberia, LA 70560 was in charge of the arrangements.
