Arnaudville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Arnaudville for Lula Mae P. Auguillard, age 94, also known as “Madame Nelson” in her community, passed away March 19, 2019 at her residence. She was born to Joseph and Amelia Provost of Galveston, Texas on May 1, 1924.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:30 am until 11:30 am on Saturday.
A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 am on Saturday.
Rev. Travis Abadie will officiate at the Funeral Mass.
Interment will follow at St. John Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville.
Madame Nelson was a tireless worker before her illness. As a seamstress, she designed clothes for her family and the community. She also helped raise the local children, while maintaining jobs at Valley Cannery and Amelia Manor Nursing Home. While at Amelia Manor she received a certificate for housekeeping in performance of her job as head housekeeper. Madame Nelson even provided rides to and from work for fellow employees. During her free time, she enjoyed traveling to many states.
She is survived by her daughters, Nellie Peltier and husband Oliver of Carencro, Mary Alice Fuselier and husband Edgar Lee of Lafayette, Louise Simon and husband Donald of Carencro, and Amelia Auguillard of Rayne; son, Paul Auguillard and wife Alice of Arnaudville; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Auguillard, two daughters, Mary Jane Robicheaux and Louella Lemelle; son, Joseph James Auguillard; and grandson, Kevin Robicheaux.
Special thanks to her caregiver, grandson, and someone she adored, James Whitley Lemelle, Jr., who provided care, love and compassion. James lived with Madame Nelson since age 5 and was always told that he would care for her in her later years.
Pallbearers will be Oliver Peltier, Chris Robicheaux, Jonnell Peltier, Nelson Auguillard, Mister Lemelle, Curtis Auguillard, and Taylor Auguillard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jasmine Fuselier, Lee Fuselier, Sheree Babineaux, Angela Lemelle, Katerine Patt, Catina Lavergne, Mosella Glaude, Tanya Simon, Tasha Simon, Crystal Duhon, and Christina Peltier.
