Breaux Bridge- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, May 24, 2024 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for Lula Mae Singleton, 77, who passed away on May 15, 2024 at J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Friday from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 AM on Friday.
Rev. George Bede Ajuruchi, SSJ will officiate at the funeral mass. Reader will be Shawndrea Dugas. Gift bearers will be Sharda' Lewis-Alexander and Cherrie Babineaux. Presenting the Bible and crucifix will be Sister Belle Champagne-Brown and Casey Zenon. Musician will be David Sylvester, Jr.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2.
She was born on December 13, 1946, in Arnaudville, and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Known for her love of Zydeco music, Bingo nights, shopping deals and speaking in French, Lula brought joy to everyone around her. She found happiness in the simplest things, and her warm spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Lula was an amazing mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who dedicated her life to caring for her family and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her children, John Ricky Champagne, Jerry Lee Champagne (Rosa), Gloria Ann Champagne, Catherine Champagne, David Champagne (Lavinia), Margaret Ann Taylor, and Howard James Champagne (LaRhonda); a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Nora Singleton and Georgie Singleton.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alphonse and Mazie Mouton Singleton; father of her children, John Champagne; infant daughter, Sandra Champagne; sister, Enola Champagne; daughter-in-law, Jo Anna Williams; and son-in-law, Rueben Taylor.
Pallbearers will be John Champagne, Brandon Champagne, Coty Champagne, Joshua Champagne, Jerrick Williams, and Shawn Lewis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Charles, Wendell Barras, III, John Brown, Emanuel Zenon, Kealan Breaux, Harry Dugas, James Babineaux, and Martrelon Alexander.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of J. Michael Morrow Nursing Home and Extended Family, especially Sandtrel Batiste. for the care and love given to Lula in her time of need.
