St. Martinville - Lydith "Kin" T. Barras, 91, a native and lifelong resident of St. Martinville, passed away at her home after a brief illness, on Monday, February 25, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, with Fr. Msgr. Jeff DeBlanc officiating. Interment will follow at St. Michael ;Cemetery in St. Martinville.The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville. A rosary will be prayed at 11 a.m. Lydith was born on September 18, 1921, in Isle Labbe. She was a retiree of the United Gas/Entex Corp. with over 30 years of service as a secretary and payment collection clerk in St. Martinville and New Iberia. Lydith was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church and a Catholic Daughter. Her greatest pleasure was visits from family and friends when they arrived at her back door. She loved her New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Braves and knew all the players by name. She is survived by a sister, Lillian B. Bernard; a nephew, Burt (Meverly) Bernard of St. Martinville; and a niece, Lillian (Maurice) Oubre of Baton Rouge; four great-nephews and three great-nieces; and ten great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Jean Baptiste and Elodie D. Barras; four sisters Ruth Barras, Luce Barras, Lucette (Dewey) Broussard, and Irene Barras; two brothers, Antoine "Bob" Barras and Eddie Barras; a brother-in-law, Howard Bernard; and two nephews, Raymond Bernard and Kenny Bernard. Lydith, affectionately known by all her family and friends as 'Kin,' was a kind and generous lady. She was "fairy godmother" to all her nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved and spoiled! The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Kin's caregivers, Mrs. Dot Robertson, Mrs. Jullaine Frederick, and Mrs. Sandra Martin. Pallbearers will be her great-nephews, Michael Bernard, John Bernard, Christopher Reid, Norris Guidry, Jr., Burt Bernard, Jr., and Lucas Bernard.
