Catahoula - A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Catahoula for Lynn "Butch" Blanchard, 66, who passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Wednesday and continue on Thursday at 9:00 am until 12:30 pm.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Wednesday.
Rev. Bill Melancon will officiate at the Funeral Service. Readers will be Bridget Latiolais and Sidney Ortego. Gift bearers will be Genevieve Blanchard, Lucas Blanchard, Eli Ortego, and Hannah Latiolais.
Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
A lifelong resident of St. Martinville, Lynn was known as "Butch" to all who knew him. Butch owned and operated Butch's Tire and Auto Center for 25 years. He was known for 41 years as the Voice of the St. Martinville Tigers. He coached Pee Wee Football and Little League Baseball many years and assisted his wife Renee with the management of the Magnolia Park Recreation Program for over 20 years. Butch was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also an enthusiastic LSU sports lover. Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis over 30 years ago, Butch fought valiantly against MS. A devout Catholic, he accepted God's plan with much courage and little complaint.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 48 years, Renee Labbe Blanchard; daughters, Bridget Latiolais and husband Chad of St. Martinville, Stephanie Ortego and husband Clay of Broussard; son, Scott Blanchard and wife Jessica of St. Martinville; his loving grandchildren, Caleb and Hannah Latiolais, HaiLeigh Wyles, Dylan Watson, Lucas and Genevieve Blanchard, Brooke Ortego Summers, and Sidney and Eli Ortego; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, James "Jimmy" Blanchard and wife Charlene, Glynn Blanchard and wife Patricia, and Keith Blanchard and wife Miranda; sister, Janice Duplantis and husband Warren "Tookie"; and his godchildren, Brian Blanchard and Natalie Greig PeCoy.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Blanchard; mother, Rose Theriot Blanchard; and nephew, Dru Duplantis.
Pallbearers will be Chad and Caleb Latiolais, Dylan Watson, Clay Ortego, Bryan Blanchard, and Jeremy Greig.
Honorary pallbearers will be James "Jimmy" Blanchard, Glynn Blanchard, Keith Blanchard, and Robert "Robbie" Labbe.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful and loving care provided by Mary Hebert, Wanda Sullivan, Melinda Robicheaux, Gene Doucet, Ora Serrette, and Pop's beloved best friend, Tammy Bernis.
