Coteau - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau for Mabel Duhon Romero, 86, who died Saturday, December 29, 2012 in New Iberia. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Barry Crochet will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Tuesday. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 8:00 AM until 12:15 PM. Born on February 7, 1926, Mrs. Romero was a native of Youngsville, and was the daughter of Essay and Eronic Hulin Duhon. She retired from the Iberia Parish School Board after 18 years of service. She enjoyed playing Pokeno, Bingo, and traveling. Survivors include her sons, Kenwood Romero and wife Diane of New Iberia, Ronald Romero and wife Judy of Coteau, Terry Romero and wife Gee of New Iberia, Danny Romero of New Iberia; daughters, Peggy Duplantis and husband Ernest of New Iberia, Jeannie Breaux of New Iberia, Debby Segura and husband Jerry of New Iberia, Bonnie Sanchez and husband Bert of Port Allen; brother, Newton Duhon and wife Lorraine of New Iberia; sisters, Effie Romero and husband Junius of Coteau, Grace Maturin and husband Curley of Coteau; daughters-in-law, Carolyn Romero of New Iberia, Tressie Duhon of New Iberia; 22 grandchildren, Keith, Kirk, Kim, Big Michelle, Scotty, Angela, Jennifer, Kendall, Kimball, Joni, Carl, Stephanie, Shawn, Little Michelle, Chasity, Sonya, Dawn, Kerry, Amy, Jessica, Joshua, Nicholas; 38 great grandchildren, Kirsten, Travis, Amber, Allison, Tyler, Amber, Keely, Madison, Payton, Conner, Ben, Brennan, Bailey, Brandon, Emma, Erica, Alix, Natalie, Kelsey, Kasper, Little Mike, Kimberly, Hunter, Logan, Derek, Skylar, Blaire, Ashley, Kylie, Kelsey, Toby, Allyssa, Bailey, Alexis, Gavin, Natalie, Avery, Breece, and 2 due to arrive in February and April; two great great grandchildren, Landon and Bryson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Avery Romero; sons, Carroll Romero, Glen Duhon; sons-in-law, Steve Breaux, Nolan Trahan; daughter-in-law, Delva Lancon Romero; grandchildren, Steven Breaux, Jamie Breaux; sister, Susie Richard; brothers, Dalton Duhon, Minus Duhon, Clarence Duhon, Lawrence Duhon, and Gerald Duhon. Pallbearers include Kenwood Romero, Ronald Romero, Terry Romero, Danny Romero, Ernest Duplantis, Jerry Segura, and Bert Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Romero's grandsons.
