New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 12, 2012 at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for Madia L. Babineaux Soignier, 89, who died Sunday, July 8, 2012 at her daughter's home. Interment will follow in the St. Peter Cemetery. Rev. Charles Langlois will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM atPellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., New Iberia, LA 70560, 337.365.3331. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Wednesday. Visitation will continue Thursday from 7:00 AM until 9:30 AM. Born on July 21, 1922 in Charenton, Mrs. Soignier, who was called 'Maw Bab' by many, loved going to church. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society, the Choir, and the Parks Auxiliary Club. Her hobbies included going to the casino, playing bingo, planting flowers, dancing, music, and helping others. Mrs. Soignier's greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and friends. She was deeply loved by everyone that knew her. 'Maw Bab' touched everyone's heart with her kindness and friendship, and will be be sadly missed by many. She is survived by her nine children, daughters, Rebecca Smith and husband, James 'JD' of Loreauville, Cynthia Bertholet and husband Gerald of Coteau Holmes, Diane Smith and husband Marvin of Charenton, Darlene Delcambre and husband Mike of Coteau, Susette Savoy and companion Billy Shelby of Broussard; sons, Darrell J. Babineaux of Oliver, Walton J. Babineaux, Jr. and wife Linda of Bowie, TX, Terry Paul Babineaux and wife Marcella of Charenton; sister, Sadia Lasseigne of Parks; 28 grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 20 step great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands, Walton Babineaux, Sr., and Felix Soignier; son, Russell Wayne Babineaux, parents, Wilfred Lasseigne, Sr. and Yolande Cormier Lasseigne; sisters, Dolores Poche, Odelle Talley; brother, Wilfred Lasseigne, Jr.; grandson, Michael Smith; sons-in-law, Lennis Case and John Allen Darby. Pallbearers include Gerald Bertholet, William Case, Bryan Broussard, Sr., Darrell Babineaux, Terry Paul Babineaux, and Drake Babineaux. Mrs. Soignier's family would like all family and friends for their prayers and best wishes. They would also like to give special thanks to Heart of Hospice, Ms. Deborah, Ms. Calie, Ms. Elaine, and Ms. Michelle for the extra ordinary care and compassion that they gave to Mrs. Soignier.
