Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 8, 2017, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Malcolm A. Melancon, 73, who passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at his home. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm on Thursday, and continue on Friday at 8:00 am until 1:30 pm. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Thursday. Rev. Richard Fabre will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Mr. Melancon honorably served in the Louisiana Army National Guard for many years. As a young man, Malcolm was an accomplished athlete playing football, basketball, running track, and he also played and coached softball. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. As a pastime he enjoyed watching LSU football, playing cards, and going dancing. Malcolm always had a joke for everyone. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving son, Mitchell Melancon and his wife Brook of St. Martinville; two grandchildren, Macy Melancon and Mckenzie Melancon; his sister, Ronnie Garritt and husband Patrick of Breaux Bridge; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Whitney and Thelma Chauffe Melancon; and his step-mother, Enola Champagne Melancon. Pallbearers will be Mckenzie Melancon, Ron Hebert, Richey Hebert, Reed Hebert, Ryan Hebert, and Rickie "Kiwi" Garritt. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Hebert, Austin Hebert, Jarrod Hebert, Peyton Hebert, and Christopher Bergeron.
